When it is time for you from one apartment to another or from your apartment into an actual house, you may think packing will be simple. But once you get started, you will quickly realize how much of a chore it really is. Here are ten steps to help you pack your apartment.
1. Plan Ahead
First, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to pack properly. Do not wait until the last minute to gather the items you need and place your belongings together in the properly.
2. Gather Supplies
As you plan, take an inventory of your apartment and gather the boxes, packing materials, tape and other items you will need to do the job. You can buy these items from moving companies or you can ask your friends and family members to loan or give boxes to you.
3. Purge
Before you pack anything and everything in sight, it is a good idea to go through your apartment with a “throw away” and “give away” box. You might have items that are not worth keeping at all and a few things you want to give away to a charity. Those items will save you room in your boxes if you get rid of them before you pack.
4. Pack Breakables
You will need to spend the most time packing your breakable items. Get out the packaging supplies and carefully wrap your glasses and other breakable things.
5. Move Room by Room
Once you have the breakable things out of the way, simply take your boxes and supplies into one room and pack everything in sight. Make sure you do not make any one box too heavy. Mix books and pillows to create a box you can actually carry.
6. Label
As you go through the rooms, label the boxes based on what is inside and what room in the new house or apartment you want those items.
7. Pack Essentials
Use a smaller box to pack essential items that you will need in your new location right away. Your bathroom items, a few kitchen things, bedding and other essentials should go into this box.
8. Secure Boxes
When the move is drawing near, tape the boxes closed with packaging tape and make sure they will not shift too much.
9. Find Help
Ask friends, family members, and neighbors to help you with your move.
10. Pack Truck
Load the boxes onto the truck with the breakable items on top and the essentials at the back.
