The only time you think about dental floss might be every 6 moths when you are in the dental chair, and your dentist is cleaning your mouth. Many people don’t take time to floss but the cons to not flossing could not just set you back financially but could take away years of your life.
Not flossing doesn’t just make your dentist work harder it spells bad news for your mouth and entire health. Bacteria can build up when we refuse to floss daily, and this bacteria build up can leak into the bloodstream. Statistics show that about half of Americans floss regularly, and many of them do so incorrectly.
Doctor Bernard Bos, DDS, a Dentist in Oregon shows us all the right techniques to help you make the most out of your daily habit.
Step 1 – Wrap a minimum of 18 inches of floss around your middle fingers. Push the floss through the tight space between your two teeth. This is called the contact.
Step 2- Hook the floss around one tooth in a “u” or “c” shape. Slide it under the gum line. By doing this you remove plaque and unwanted bacteria build up. Then move the floss back and fourth over the tooth’s surface in a motion that is similar to shinning a shoe.
